Youth and Scooter Swept Away in Asansol Garui River

An 18-year-old youth named Mohammad Riyaz went missing after being swept away by the strong currents of the Garui River in Asansol. The incident occurred late Monday night while he was attempting to cross the river on his scooter during heavy rainfall. The local police have received a missing person complaint and are looking into the matter.
Details of the incident
Mohammad Riyaz worked at a hotel located near the Mela Kola National Highway. On Monday night, he left his workplace around 12:00 AM to return to his home in Sitarampur. While crossing the river near the Boka Baba temple behind the Pepsi factory, his scooter lost balance due to the force of the water and he was washed away.
Search operation continues
When Riyaz did not reach home, his family members began searching for him at his workplace and among his friends. After failing to locate him in areas like Barachak, Railpar, and Kalipahadi, the family filed a complaint at the Niyamatpur police outpost. Continuous heavy rain has increased the water level of the Garui River, making the search operation difficult for local residents and authorities.
