Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rain in North Bengal Districts

The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for West Bengal as the monsoon remains active across the state. While southern districts expect light to moderate rainfall, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for parts of North Bengal, specifically in hilly and lowland areas.

Weather Forecast for North Bengal

Residents in the northern districts should remain cautious due to the predicted weather conditions. The districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. In some specific locations, heavy downpours are likely. Authorities have advised residents in hilly regions to stay alert due to the risk of potential landslides caused by heavy rain.

Conditions in South Bengal and Coastal Areas

South Bengal will experience cloudy skies throughout the day with intermittent rain. Districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia are likely to see thunderstorms and gusty showers. Coastal areas such as Digha, Mandarmani, and Shankarpur may experience rain accompanied by strong winds.

Temperature and Safety Advisories

Statewide, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels, between 85 and 95 percent, will cause discomfort. According to Hindusthan Samachar, officials have advised fishermen to check for weather updates before heading into the sea. Citizens are also urged to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions as monsoon activity is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
