Wild Elephant Damages House and Bike in Nagrakata

A wild elephant entered Mangalbari Basti in the Matelli block late Sunday night and caused significant damage to property. The incident took place around 1:30 AM during heavy rainfall when the animal strayed from the nearby Panijhora forest into the residential area.

Damage Caused to Local Property

The elephant targeted the home of Kundra Sukri Oraon, causing structural damage to the residence. Upon hearing the disturbance, the resident woke up and raised an alarm to alert others. The wild elephant also destroyed a motorcycle parked in front of the house during the incident. The sudden arrival of the animal caused panic among the local villagers who attempted to drive it away by making loud noises, but the elephant remained in the area.

Forest Department Response and Compensation

Following the incident, the local forest department was informed about the situation. A team from the forest department arrived at the location and successfully drove the elephant back toward the forest. Officials have confirmed that they are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the animal. The forest department has assured that the affected family will receive compensation for their losses according to government norms.
