West Bengal Weather Forecast Predicts Heavy Rain Today

The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather update for West Bengal, forecasting light to moderate rainfall across most districts from the north to the south today. Residents can expect cloudy skies throughout the day as weather conditions shift across the state.

Rainfall Expected Across North Bengal

All districts in North Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. The weather bureau has specifically noted that heavy rainfall is expected in isolated places across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. Meanwhile, Malda and the Dinajpur districts may face gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

South Bengal Weather Conditions

In South Bengal, districts such as Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and the 24 Parganas are expected to see widespread rain. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are anticipated in specific areas including East and West Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, East Bardhaman, and Birbhum. Authorities have warned that these weather conditions could lead to lightning strikes and temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas, potentially affecting traffic flow in busy urban centers.

Cause of Weather Changes

According to Hindusthan Samachar, the current weather pattern is driven by a low-pressure area over southern West Bengal and neighboring north Odisha. This system is expected to bring heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 centimeters to several districts over the next 24 hours. Additionally, coastal regions of West Bengal and Odisha may experience strong winds blowing at 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, with occasional gusts reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour.
