West Bengal Speaker Leads Cleaning Drive in Cooch Behar

West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker and Cooch Behar South MLA Rathindra Bose has launched a cleanliness drive to restore the historical ponds of Cooch Behar city. The initiative focuses on reviving the city's lost identity as the city of ponds, as many of its historical water bodies are currently in poor condition due to a lack of maintenance.

Cleaning Campaign at Yamuna Dighi

The official cleaning campaign began on Monday as a joint effort between the Cooch Behar Municipality and the district administration. The work started at Yamuna Dighi located in Ward Number 19, which is situated near the residence of the Assembly Speaker. This project fulfills a promise made by the MLA during the election period regarding the restoration and beautification of the town's historical water bodies.

Active Participation in Restoration

In a notable move, Speaker Rathindra Bose personally participated in the cleaning work alongside municipal workers. The involvement of the Speaker in the physical labor of the campaign was observed by local residents in the area. According to the Hindusthan Samachar report, this effort is part of a larger plan to improve the city's aesthetics and preserve its heritage. The administration expects that these ongoing efforts will help re-establish the historical significance of the ponds in Cooch Behar.
