The West Bengal government has officially announced a half-day holiday in the districts of Bankura and Purulia on the occasion of Mansa Puja. This local holiday will come into effect after 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, across all state government offices, local administrative bodies, municipalities, panchayats, and educational institutions in these two districts.

According to the official notification issued by the Finance Department on Monday, this decision was taken with the approval of the Governor. The primary objective of this administrative order is to allow government employees and the general public to participate in local cultural and religious rituals. All state-controlled offices, schools, colleges, and autonomous institutions in Bankura and Purulia will remain closed after 2:00 PM on August 18.

Mansa Puja holds deep significance in the rural culture of South and South-West Bengal. In districts like Purulia and Bankura, the worship of the serpent goddess Mansa on the last day of the month of Shravan is a major social event.
