West Bengal Health Minister Shardwat Mukherjee raised serious questions regarding doctor Abhik De and his postgraduate medical admission during a visit to Burdwan Medical College Hospital. The health minister stated that complaints have emerged alleging political influence rather than merit played a role in the postgraduate admission.
Allegations indicate that the Anamoy Hospital in Burdwan was shown as a rural hospital to help Abhik De claim service quota benefits for his postgraduate entry. The health ministry is currently checking all documents and work records related to this hospital stay.
Investigators found alleged discrepancies in the attendance register after checking documents to see if regular duty was performed. Officials are investigating whether proper attendance was maintained at the facility during the required period.
The health department formed a four-member committee in August 2026 to re-examine the service quota dispute after earlier legal scrutiny at the Calcutta High Court in January 2026. Department officials confirmed that strict action will follow if the ongoing probe proves that qualified candidates suffered losses due to any irregularities.
