West Bengal Assembly Speaker Visits Siliguri District Court

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee visited the Siliguri district court on Friday during his return journey from Cooch Behar. The Speaker held a courtesy meeting with the lawyers present at the court premises to discuss various local issues.

Demands Raised by Local Lawyers

During the interaction, the lawyers presented several formal demands to the Speaker. The primary requests included the construction of a new court building and a proposal regarding the status of Siliguri. The legal professionals also brought other significant administrative matters to his attention during the discussion.

Speaker Response on Administrative Role

Addressing the requests, Biman Banerjee clarified his official position regarding the proposals. He stated that he is not a minister or a direct part of the government, which limits his executive authority. However, he assured the lawyers that he would attempt to convey these issues to the concerned government officials when the opportunity arises.

Reason for the Unplanned Visit

Regarding the nature of his arrival, the Speaker explained that the visit was not pre-scheduled. He mentioned that while returning from Cooch Behar, he had some spare time and decided to visit the court to meet acquaintances and former colleagues.
