West Bengal Anti Corruption Bureau Arrests Blood Dealer

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the West Bengal Police has arrested a man named Shahabuddin Mallick for his alleged involvement in the illegal sale of blood. The agency stated that the accused acted as a middleman to sell blood that was obtained unlawfully from the Panskura Blood Bank. Authorities are currently investigating whether any blood bank employees were involved in this illegal operation.
Details of the Investigation
Following the arrest, the investigative agency is working to uncover the full network behind this racket. The probe aims to identify the sources of the blood, the buyers, and the extent of involvement of any staff members. The ACB has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to determine if there was a larger conspiracy or internal support from within the healthcare facility to facilitate these illegal sales.
Crackdown on Blood Bank Irregularities
This arrest follows a period of strict enforcement by the West Bengal Health Department regarding irregularities in blood banks across the state. In recent times, officials have conducted raids on several private blood banks following allegations of unauthorized blood donation camps and the illegal transport of blood and plasma to other states at high prices. As of August 1, the health department has banned 11 blood banks from organizing blood donation camps until further notice.
Statewide Measures and Compliance
State authorities have mandated that blood banks must obtain official permission before transferring large quantities of blood to other locations. Previous investigations involved teams inspecting documents, storage records, and distribution logs at various private facilities in Kolkata and other districts. The health department continues to monitor these institutions closely to ensure that blood collection and distribution follow legal guidelines to prevent further malpractice.
