A high-level administrative review meeting was held at Uttarkanya in Siliguri to discuss development works in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Pradip Majumdar led the meeting which covered various local issues, panchayat conditions, and the functioning of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).
Minister Pradip Majumdar stated that the meeting was detailed and productive despite some delays in project execution. Officials discussed how continuous rainfall, local problems, and a shortage of employees in the GTA have slowed down development work in the hills. Block Development Officers shared specific field problems so the administration can speed up future projects.
Special audits are currently underway in about ten percent of panchayats following corruption complaints. The minister noted that steps are being taken to address infrastructure problems and staff shortages in the GTA while looking into reported irregularities.
