A dead body of an unknown person was found inside the Amaidighi Junior Basic School premises in Phulbari on Thursday morning, creating panic among locals. The body was recovered from the shed situated between the mid-day meal kitchen and the classrooms of the school.
Students, teachers, and local residents were gripped by fear after the incident came to light.
Teacher-in-charge Sanjib Sarkar stated that a teacher first spotted the person lying in the shed at around 7:30 in the morning. None of the school staff or local people could identify the dead person.
Local residents stated that the old boundary wall of the school was demolished due to four-lane expansion work, leaving the school premises open.
People alleged that outsiders are entering the school campus by taking advantage of this situation and demanded the construction of a new boundary wall as soon as possible.
New Jalpaiguri police station officers reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
Police recovered the body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination while starting an investigation into the matter.
