UAE Expats Donate Funds for Assam Flood Relief Efforts

A group of expatriates living in the UAE has raised Dh35,000 to assist communities affected by the recent floods in Assam. This support comes as the state continues to manage the impact of severe flooding that has resulted in 103 deaths. As of August 12, 2026, about 87,000 people across four districts are still affected, with Golaghat being the most impacted area. Although the situation is improving, 433 villages remain underwater and more than 10,000 hectares of farmland have been damaged.

Government Response and Rehabilitation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a large rehabilitation program to help those impacted by the disaster. The state government plans to spend more than ₹1,000 crore on reconstruction work. Extensive damage has been reported to bridges and roads across the state. Currently, 79 relief camps are providing food and other necessary supplies to over 13,000 people. Officials are now conducting a damage assessment for up to 60,000 families to provide compensation for lost property and livestock.

Weather Alerts and Safety Measures

Disaster management teams remain on high alert due to ongoing weather conditions in the region. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for moderate to heavy rainfall in the Northeast through August 18. Authorities are monitoring the weather closely to ensure the safety of the population. While the floodwaters are slowly receding, the focus remains on providing relief and starting the recovery process for the affected districts.
