Two Major Road Accidents Reported on Chhapar Highway

Two separate road accidents occurred on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, resulting in one death and injuries to several others. Local authorities responded to both incidents to provide medical assistance and manage the traffic situation on the busy highway.

Elderly man dies in collision with motorcycle

In the first incident, a 60-year-old man named Aziz, a resident of Chhapar village, was attempting to cross the highway while carrying fodder for his livestock. He was struck by a speeding bullet motorcycle carrying Kanwariyas who were returning from Haridwar. The impact left the elderly man critically injured, and he was later declared dead by doctors at the district hospital. The Kanwariyas involved in the accident also sustained injuries but received medical treatment before continuing their journey. The family of the deceased declined a post-mortem examination, and the body was handed over to them after completing legal formalities.

Father and daughter injured in truck collision

Shortly after the first incident, a second accident took place in the same Chhapar area. A man named Tasawwar was traveling on a motorcycle with his five-year-old daughter, Mahi, when their vehicle was hit by a speeding truck. Both the father and his young daughter suffered serious injuries in the collision. Local villagers present at the scene managed to apprehend the truck driver, identified as Pintu from Bihari village, and handed him over to the local police along with the vehicle involved in the crash.

Police response and highway safety

Following the second accident, the police transported the injured father and daughter to the district hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care. Authorities have noted that the high volume of traffic and the influx of pilgrims on the highway have increased the risk of road accidents during the Kanwar Yatra period. The police continue to urge all commuters and pilgrims to follow traffic rules and maintain safe speed limits to prevent further road tragedies.
