Tutor Dies From Electric Shock In Jalpaiguri

A home tutor died after coming into contact with a live electric wire in the Dhupguri block of Jalpaiguri district. The tragic incident took place late Thursday night in the Chourangi area under Makurmari-2 gram panchayat.

Accident During Heavy Rain

The victim, Rajendra Mahato, was returning home on his motorcycle after finishing his tuition classes. During heavy rain, a live electric wire suddenly snapped and fell on the road. He got caught in the wire along with his motorcycle and fell on the road, dying on the spot.

Protest Against Electricity Department

Local residents alleged that they called the electricity department several times to cut off the power, but no action was taken on time. The locals ultimately shut down the transformer themselves to stop the power supply, but Rajendra had already passed away. Angry residents staged a protest late into the night, blaming the electricity department for negligence.

Police Intervention And Assurance

Upon receiving information, police from Dhupguri police station reached the spot and the body was sent to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Officials and police assured the victim's family of compensation according to government rules and promised early repair of damaged wires, after which the protest ended.
