Tripura Village Committee Polls Begin in TTAADC Areas

Voting for the Village Committee elections began at 7 am on Monday in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council area, starting at New Mandai Girls High School in the West Tripura district. The Tripura State Election Commission had stated that all security and administrative arrangements were fully completed for the polls. Polling is being conducted for 2,950 seats across 587 Village Committees out of a total 4,597 seats. A total of 1,644 seats were declared uncontested, and three seats are vacant due to no nominations. Around 8,176 candidates are contesting the elections, with nearly 6.65 lakh voters eligible to cast their votes at 1,095 polling stations. Ballot papers in white, light pink, light green, and light blue are being used to help voters.

Security and Deployment

The Election Commission deployed 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces across the state along with 8,977 personnel of the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles. More than 1,500 senior security officials were also assigned supervisory duties. A total of 7,458 polling personnel in 1,243 teams were deployed for the exercise. West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak stated that polling was progressing smoothly with proper security cover in place. Voters expressed happiness about casting their ballots after a long gap and reported no problems with the polling arrangements.
