Tripura Police Get 35 Meters To Stop Loud Noise

Tripura Police have received 35 new digital sound level meters to strictly control noise pollution during festivals and daily life. The official handover took place on October 12, 2026, at a ceremony in Agartala hosted by the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB). This project is backed by the Department of Science, Technology and Environment to enforce rules under the Environment (Protection) Act.

New Tools For Festive Season

Police units across Agartala and major district headquarters will use these devices to measure high-decibel sounds scientifically. Tripura Science, Technology and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma urged officers to use this technology to protect public health. Dr. Bishu Karmakar from the TSPCB stated the tools arrive just in time to monitor noise levels before Durga Puja and Diwali. Officers can now easily check illegal loudspeakers, loud festive sound systems, and vehicles with modified silencers.

Strict Action Against Violators

Traffic officers are already conducting inspections that can lead to heavy fines, vehicle seizures, and license suspensions. Inspector General of Police Manchak Ippar confirmed the tools will help maintain public order. Traffic Superintendent Kanta Jangir warned that repeat offenders could even face imprisonment. TSPCB Chairman Dr. K. Shashikumar provided technical guidance on permissible sound limits for silence zones near schools and hospitals. Principal Secretary Shantanu stressed that these actions follow Tripura High Court directives against excessive noise pollution, as reported by United News of India.
