Police in Tripura successfully stopped a 72-hour blockade on the Assam-Agartala National Highway on Saturday. The swift police action prevented major traffic disruptions during the festive season.
Members of surrendered militant groups from the NLFT and ATTF Kaulajoy faction gathered at Chandra Sadhup para in Baramura on Maha Saptami for the blockade.
District administration officials and police reached the spot and asked protesters to withdraw the agitation. Protesters refused to call off the blockade despite appeals from the administration.
Police detained the protesters, including leader Kaulajoy Tripura, and took them to AD Nagar in Agartala. Two police personnel, identified as Prasenjit Das and Kajal Debbarma, sustained injuries during the detentions and were sent to a hospital for medical treatment.
Vehicular movement along the national highway is currently normal and the situation is under control.
