The Tripura High Court has dismissed a petition filed by former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to cancel a police case against him.
The case was registered at the West Agartala Police Station following a public speech made by the veteran leader during a political program. Critics alleged that his statement claiming the state and country were moving toward militant movements created an uneasy atmosphere.
A division bench ruled that the police investigation will continue because the FIR shows elements of a cognizable offence. The court directed the investigating agency to conduct a thorough probe while granting Sarkar the liberty to seek bail through appropriate judicial channels.
