Tripura CM Pays Tribute To SD Burman

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha paid floral tribute to legendary music maestro Sachin Dev Burman at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala on Thursday, October 1, to commemorate his contribution to Indian music. SD Burman was born on October 1, 1906, in Comilla, which is now in Bangladesh, and belonged to the royal family of Tripura before becoming a top music director and playback singer.

Chief Minister Recalls Admiration

Speaking to the media after the event, Chief Minister Saha shared his personal admiration for the artist and his connection to the venue. He stated that he is very much influenced by the tunes and singing of SD Burman. He also noted that the current site of Rabindra Bhavan was once the house of the maestro, which was donated to the government.

Musical Journey And Heritage

The Chief Minister highlighted the down-to-earth nature of the musician despite his royal lineage. SD Burman carried the folk traditions and boatman songs from his birthplace in his heart as he moved from Kolkata to Mumbai. His compositions continue to be popular across the whole world, blending classical and traditional Indian music successfully.

Legacy Of A Self-Made Artiste

Saha described the legendary composer as a self-made person who achieved success without any help. Young people can learn from his journey and how he progressed entirely on his own. S.D. Burman composed music for more than 100 films and worked with famous singers like Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mohammed Rafi before his passing on October 31, 1975.
