Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated a newly renovated and beautified public pond at Ujan Abhoynagar in Agartala on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The project was implemented under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme at a cost of 3.02 crore rupees as reported by News On Air. The work transforms a previously neglected water body into an eco-friendly public park featuring boundary protection, walking paths, seating benches, adequate lighting, and landscaped green spaces.

Pond Restoration and Flood Mitigation

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Saha noted that the state government, in coordination with the Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Urban Development Department, has launched initiatives to restore historical water bodies that had faced extinction due to neglect. Dr. Saha emphasized that these wetlands are central to Agartala's flood mitigation strategy and broader smart city beautification program, noting that six of nine identified ponds have now been renovated according to ANI News.Highlighting the importance of infrastructure in improving the quality of life, the Chief Minister pointed to ongoing projects such as embankment work along the Katakhal and Haora rivers and the installation of additional drainage pumps to address monsoon waterlogging. Dr. Saha urged citizens to take responsibility for maintaining these public assets and to avoid dumping waste in or around the ponds. The event was attended by AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, AMC Commissioner Saju Waheed, Urban Development Department Secretary Milind Ramteke, and Urban Development Department CEO GS Nayak.
