Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the state government is working to develop Agartala and other urban areas into modern, environment-friendly, and appealing cities. The Chief Minister inaugurated the renovation project of the historic pond near Ujan Abhoynagar Market. He stated that the government aims to improve quality of life and protect the natural balance of urban areas.
Dr. Saha mentioned that traditional ponds and water bodies faced extinction in the past due to neglect and lack of planning, which caused drainage problems during monsoons.
The government launched special initiatives to restore old water bodies across the city. The beautification of the Ujan Abhoynagar Market pond was implemented under
AMRUT 2.0 with walking paths, lighting, and green spaces.
Several initiatives are being implemented to transform Agartala into a liveable city. These include drainage modernization, alternative roads, solar power, and conservation of parks. The Chief Minister appealed to citizens not to dump plastic or waste in ponds and to keep the environment clean.
