Two TMCP Factions Seek Same Venue for Foundation Day Event

Two separate factions of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) have requested permission from the Kolkata Police to hold their foundation day event at Mayo Road. The foundation day program is scheduled for August 28, a location where the organization has held its annual meeting for many years. The dispute has emerged as different wings of the party seek to host the event at the Gandhi statue site on Mayo Road.

The faction supporting the Kalighat camp has approached the Calcutta High Court after receiving no response from the police. Their lawyer informed Justice Saugata Bhattacharya that they had submitted a request for the event on July 27, followed by additional inquiries on August 3 and August 7. Due to the lack of response from the authorities, the Kalighat faction filed a petition seeking an urgent hearing in the High Court.

Ritabrata Banerjee Faction Request

Following the move by the Kalighat group, the faction supporting Ritabrata Banerjee has also submitted a formal letter to the Kolkata Police. They are seeking official permission to hold the TMCP foundation day gathering at the same Mayo Road location. Both groups are now claiming the right to conduct their program at the traditional venue used for the student wing's foundation day.

Political Context of the Event

This development follows the recent division of the Trinamool Congress into three distinct groups. Earlier, these factions held separate programs in different locations across Kolkata and Delhi on July 21. As both the Kalighat and Ritabrata Banerjee supporters have applied for the same site, the situation regarding the August 28 event remains uncertain.
