Three Laborers Killed in Major Road Accident in Itahar

A tragic road accident occurred on Friday morning in the Itahar police station area of North Dinajpur, resulting in the death of three laborers and leaving 11 others injured. The incident took place on National Highway-12 near the Baliapada area.
Details of the Incident
According to reports from Hindusthan Samachar, about 30 laborers from Sadapur and Dharanda villages were traveling in a truck to reach their workplace. Upon arriving at the Baliapada area on NH-12, the laborers got off the vehicle and were preparing to start their work. At that moment, a speeding truck heading toward Malda lost control and rammed into the back of the stationary truck carrying the workers.
Casualties and Medical Response
The impact of the collision was severe, causing the laborers standing near the truck to be thrown a distance away. Three laborers, identified as Chepo Barman (45), Alka Barman (46), and Tapa Mardi (37), died on the spot. Local residents and traffic police arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations. The 11 injured individuals were initially taken to Itahar Rural Hospital. Due to their critical condition, they were later referred to Raiganj Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police Action and Investigation
Following the accident, the police from Itahar station reached the site to manage the situation. The bodies of the deceased were sent to Raiganj Medical College for post-mortem examinations. Both trucks involved in the collision have been seized and taken to the police station. The driver of the offending truck fled the scene immediately after the accident, and the police have launched a search operation to locate him.
