Chaos and tension broke out during the first-year admission process at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday. Allegations of physical assault and mismanagement surfaced during the counselling session.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly attacked interns and doctors at a help desk set up by the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) to assist new students.
Complaints were also raised about mobile phones and stethoscopes being snatched, along with alleged misbehavior toward female interns.
The ABVP denied all charges, with worker Abhijit Ray claiming the situation worsened due to outsiders entering the campus without permission.
AIDSO secretary and intern doctor Hiranmoy Roy maintained that ABVP members attacked the help desk.
Police from the medical outpost arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anirban Majumdar stated that the situation is normal and admission work is continuing, adding that an investigation will begin if a written complaint is received.
