Tension at Kodalia-2 Panchayat Over No Confidence Motion

A no-confidence motion against the head of the Trinamool Congress-led Kodalia-2 Gram Panchayat caused significant tension on Tuesday. Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in large numbers to secure the panchayat premises ahead of the scheduled voting on the motion.
Protest Outside Panchayat Office
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers gathered outside the panchayat office carrying rotten eggs to protest against the Trinamool Congress members. Security forces restricted the entry of outsiders into the office premises to maintain order. The protest was planned in response to the internal conflict within the ruling party regarding the leadership of the gram panchayat.
Reasons Behind the Conflict
Reports indicate that the motion was brought against the current head, Bela Majhi, by a section of Trinamool Congress members. It is alleged that former head Bidyut Biswas is attempting to install his wife, Urmila Biswas, as the new head. BJP leaders alleged that the panchayat has become a hub for corruption and demanded a transparent administration. They further stated that if the current members fail to resolve the situation, the administration should appoint an official to manage the panchayat affairs.
Trinamool Congress Response
Asit Majumdar, the president of the Hooghly-Srirampur organizational district for the Trinamool Congress, clarified that the move was not a party decision. He stated that those who initiated the motion individually are responsible for providing answers regarding the matter. The incident remains a point of political tension in the region as reported by the original source Hindusthan Samachar.
