The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Manipur Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report on 25 unnatural deaths in relief camps. This includes an inquiry into an alleged sexual assault incident reported from the camps.
Court Questions State Over Post-Mortems And Compensation
A bench of judges questioned the State government about the low number of post-mortem examinations. The court also asked why families received very low compensation ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.
The apex court directed the State to provide all documents and post-mortem reports establishing causes of death. The Manipur Legal Services Authority was instructed to ensure the registration of First Information Reports in all these cases.
