Students Protest at North Bengal University Over Admissions

Undergraduate students held a protest at the gate of North Bengal University on Tuesday to demand admission into the seventh semester. The students are asking for permission to enroll even if they have not passed all subjects up to the sixth semester.
Reason for student protest
According to current university rules, students who have not passed all papers until the sixth semester are not eligible for seventh-semester admission. The protesting students claim that the implementation of the National Education Policy caused significant difficulties. Students stated that they faced a shortage of teachers and proper academic facilities under the new curriculum, which led to failures in some subjects.
Demands and university response
Approximately 60 percent of students under North Bengal University are currently unable to take admission into the seventh semester. The students have warned that they will intensify their movement and shut down the university if their demands are not met within 48 hours. The protesters also met with the Joint Registrar to submit their complaints.
Joint Registrar Dr. Swapan Rakshit confirmed that the complaints have been heard. The university has forwarded the details of the situation to the acting Registrar and the Department of Higher Education for further review. The university is now awaiting instructions from the relevant department regarding the next steps.
