Student Pours Kerosene on Himself at Jalpaiguri College
A student at Anand Chandra College in Jalpaiguri poured kerosene on himself during a history class on Monday to protest against alleged harassment. The incident occurred during a first-semester history class.
Student's Allegations
The student claimed that he and other students have been facing violence and misconduct for some time. He alleged that outsiders often enter the college premises to harass and assault students.
College and Police Response
A professor immediately informed the college principal, Dr. Devashish Das, who arrived at the scene. Police from the Kotwali police station also reached the college to handle the situation. The student alleged that despite informing college authorities and officials, no effective action was taken.
Conflict and Investigation
The student accused the ABVP of harassment and assault without naming them directly. However, the ABVP has completely rejected these allegations. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
