Police in Jalpaiguri have recovered a stolen marble idol of Lord Shani from the Teesta Canal near the Phulbari area. The marble idol was found on Monday after a search operation was conducted by the police near the Kanchanbari area.
The idol was stolen late Friday night from a Shani temple located in the Kanchanbari area near Phulbari. Local residents discovered that the idol was missing on Saturday morning when they arrived at the temple for worship. A written complaint was immediately lodged at the New Jalpaiguri police station.
During the investigation, police detained a young man for questioning regarding the temple theft. Police sources stated that the person admitted to throwing the idol into the water of the Teesta canal. On Monday, police launched a search operation in the canal and successfully recovered the marble idol after about an hour of searching.
Temple members expressed relief after the stolen idol was safely recovered from the water. Temple committee member Deepak Singh thanked the police for their efforts in finding the sacred idol. Police stated that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
