SSB Organizes Free Veterinary Camp for Mirik Farmers

The 8th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) recently organized a free veterinary medical camp for livestock farmers living in the border areas of Mirik. Conducted under the guidance of SSB Commandant P. G. Sami, the event took place at the Mechi village border outpost near Tingling. The primary objective of this initiative was to provide quality healthcare for livestock, improve milk production, and support the livelihoods of local villagers.

Medical Services Provided to Livestock

During the camp, a veterinary team led by Dr. Samir Kumar Das conducted health check-ups and provided necessary medical treatment for the animals. The team examined a total of 219 animals brought by farmers from Mechi village, Toklung, Chungthung, and Halegaon. In addition to the treatments, the medical professionals distributed free medicines to the farmers to ensure the continued health of their livestock.

Guidance on Animal Care and Disease Prevention

Beyond immediate medical treatment, the veterinary experts provided crucial training to the local farmers. The farmers received detailed information on maintaining animal hygiene, providing proper nutrition, and protecting livestock from seasonal diseases. The team also emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations, which is essential for preventing outbreaks and maintaining the productivity of the animals in the border region.

Community Response to the Health Initiative

Local villagers participated actively in the camp and expressed their support for the efforts made by the security forces. The residents appreciated the initiative for providing essential veterinary services at their doorstep and expressed their hope for similar outreach programs in the future. This effort by the SSB highlights the commitment to supporting the welfare of rural communities residing along the border areas of North Bengal.
