A high-speed crash on National Highway 27 near Sonapur left a commercial passenger cruiser completely destroyed after hitting a freight carrier. The violent impact crushed the front cabin and engine compartment. Debris scattered across the road and blocked traffic on the Guwahati to Upper Assam route for hours.
Highway patrol officers and local villagers worked together to pull trapped passengers out of the damaged vehicle.
The injured people were sent to the nearest district trauma center for medical treatment. Traffic remained stopped until authorities cleared the wreckage from both lanes of the highway.
After the road was cleared, local residents and transport unions held a short protest near a local toll plaza.
The protesters complained about uneven road surfaces and poor speed control. They stated these road issues are the main reasons for severe accidents on this highway.
