The Northeast Frontier Railway has launched upgraded technology-driven passenger services and amenities across five major long-distance superfast train routes. This update makes NFR the second zonal railway in India to implement such standards. The roll-out of these services took place between October 10 and October 14, 2026. The affected routes include the Guwahati-Kolkata Garib Rath Express, the Dibrugarh-Mumbai LTT Express, the New Jalpaiguri-Patna Vande Bharat Express, the New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express, and the Kamakhya-SMVT Bengaluru Express.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, stated that the initiative aims to
improve cleanliness, hygiene, and overall passenger comfort. SMC Integrated Facility Management Solutions Limited has received the contract to handle these technology-enabled housekeeping services. The service package features regular AC window and coach cleaning, better washroom maintenance, waste management, and the timely handling of bed linen.
To ensure accountability, NFR has
deployed dedicated teams for technical assistance and water monitoring. Passenger complaints have a two-hour resolution target, and unresolved issues go to higher railway authorities. The system uses advanced digital and AI-based monitoring like geo-tagged service verification, staff tracking, and centralized control. Passengers can also give real-time feedback and star ratings to help the railway assess cleaning quality.
