The Sivasagar District Administration has started comprehensive relief operations across waterlogged villages to stop waterborne infections after severe floods in Assam. Officials are sending clean drinking water tankers and giving water purification tablets to people in flooded rural areas according to the official flood contingency plan.
These steps follow major recovery work from earlier in 2026 when floods between July 18 and July 26 affected more than 4 lakh people across 385 villages. The Public Health Engineering Department and District Disaster Management Authority worked together to fix infrastructure like the Santak Bazar Piped Water Supply Scheme within one week of damage.
By August 12, 2026, authorities disinfected 267 hand tubewells across 17 villages, restored 9 water schemes, and gave out 4,000 halogen tablets as reported by ANI news. The administration is using bleaching powder and phenyl in relief camps, hospitals, and homes. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma checked the relief work and ordered proper food, health care, and safe water for citizens. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta confirmed central aid has reached the area. The DDMA advises residents to boil drinking water and keep strict sanitation to stop diseases.
