Police have sealed the Sitong homestay where a woman suffered severe burn injuries during a chicken barbecue incident eight days ago. The Jalpaiguri Regional Forensic Science Laboratory team collected various samples from the spot before the police took action. According to police, the exact cause of the fire will be known only after the forensic report arrives.
The accident took place on September 13 in the Khasmahal area of Sitong One Gram Panchayat in the Kurseong subdivision.
A woman from Chopra in North Dinajpur, who was sitting nearby during a chicken barbecue, suffered serious burns covering about 65 percent of her body. The family filed an FIR alleging negligence by the homestay management and failure to provide a vehicle on time to take her to the hospital.
Police have arrested four people, including the owner and manager of the homestay.
The injured woman, who was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kawakhaki, Siliguri, was shifted to Kolkata in a special ambulance for better medical care on Sunday night. According to her husband, Souvik Das, her treatment has started at MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata. State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh stated that proper investigation into the matter is underway and necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
