Abhishek Saha, a young resident of Siliguri, died after his car fell into a deep gorge on Rohini Road while returning from Kurseong on Sunday night. Five other people who were in the car at the time of the accident were safely rescued.
The car lost control and plunged into the roadside gorge during the late-night journey. While five passengers were rescued quickly, Abhishek Saha was initially reported missing.
His body was recovered after hours of searching on Monday morning.Out of the five injured individuals, two were admitted to a private hospital in Siliguri for treatment. The remaining three passengers were discharged after receiving primary medical treatment.
Abhishek Saha was the son of Bapi Saha, the secretary of the Vidhan Market Traders Association in Siliguri. Following the tragic news, many traders in the Vidhan Market area voluntarily closed their shops to express their grief and stand in solidarity with the grieving family.
The traders' association clarified that there was no official call to shut down the market, and shops were closed by individuals on their own accord.
