Siliguri Tea Garden Workers Protest for Bonus Payment

Tea garden workers in Naxalbari started a protest on Monday to demand their pending festival bonus. Workers gathered inside the estate to raise slogans and demand the clearance of their dues. Workers stated that three percent bonus from last year is still unpaid and management has not made any clear decision regarding this year's demand for a twenty percent bonus. The Chief Minister had earlier directed that all tea garden bonuses be paid by October five, but the issue at Naxalbari tea estate remains unresolved. Workers have warned that their agitation will continue until they receive both the pending three percent from last year and the twenty percent bonus for this year.

Management Response on Bonus Issue

Garden manager Patrick Tamang stated that the matter has been reported to the estate owners and discussions are underway to offer a ten percent bonus. The management blamed the financial condition of the garden for the delay, while workers remain firm on their demands.
