Darjeeling MP Raju Bisht stressed the need for tea industry modernization and worker welfare during the Siliguri Tea Auction Committee golden jubilee celebration on Saturday.
Established in 1976, the
Siliguri Tea Auction Committee has played a key role in shaping the tea economy of North Bengal. Raju Bisht stated that tea is connected to the history, culture, and livelihoods of millions of people in the Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars regions. He emphasized modernizing the auction system, promoting technology, and expanding domestic and international markets.

STAC app was launched during the event to help buyers and sellers connect easily in real time. Bisht highlighted the contribution of women tea workers and stated that worker livelihoods and respect must remain strong for a successful industry. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the
Pradhan Minister Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana, through which the central government allocated about Rs 330 crore for tea worker welfare and living standards.
