Students in Siliguri blocked a national highway on Monday to protest the transfer of their headmaster.
Students placed their school bags on National Highway 27 in Bidhannagar to demand the return of Murliganj High School headmaster Shamsul Alam.
The road blockade caused long vehicle queues and created tension in the local area.
Police used strict measures to clear the traffic after students refused to end the protest.
Classes at Murliganj High School remained suspended on Monday due to the ongoing protests that have lasted for about a month and a half.
