Siliguri Starts 55 Crore Road Repair Work For Durga Puja

Siliguri gets a big boost for the festive season as authorities start road repairs.
The West Bengal state government and the Siliguri Municipal Corporation sanctioned an allocation of ₹55 crore to facilitate urgent road repairs and resurfacing across all 47 wards of Siliguri. The initiative aims to address damage caused by heavy monsoons and ensures city-wide preparedness for the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
Progress And Deadlines
On October 2, 2026, civic administrator R. Vimala confirmed that approximately 70% of the planned repair works have already been completed. Officials noted that repair efforts are currently being accelerated in areas such as Subhashpally, Rathkhola, Rabindranagar, Hakimpara, and Deshbandhupara to meet a deadline set by the state government for completion before Mahalaya on October 10.
Night Work And Major Roads
The project involves a coordinated effort between the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department, the Public Works Department, and the Panchayats and Rural Development Department. Teams are conducting night-time repair drives along major corridors, including Hill Cart Road, Bidhan Road, and Sevoke Road, to mitigate traffic disruption. In addition to filling potholes, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation is actively working to expand SF Road and portions of Sevoke Road while developing new parking zones.
Future Planning And Local Impact
Civic administrator Vimala noted that the municipal corporation is coordinating with the state power department to align future underground cable work, ensuring that newly resurfaced roads remain intact. Local merchant associations expressed support for the project, noting that improvements to road quality and traffic management should alleviate congestion and increase foot traffic for retail businesses.
