Hundreds of sanitation workers under the banner of Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Kalyan Sangathan have started an indefinite strike in Siliguri. They are demanding job regularisation and a salary hike along with other demands.
On Tuesday, the protesting sanitation workers took out a protest march in Siliguri to support their demands. The march started from Baghajatin Park, went around Hillcart Road, and ended back at Baghajatin Park. During the march, the workers raised their voices for immediate regularisation and salary increases.
The organisation stated that they have been appealing to the administration for a long time, but their issues have not been permanently resolved. Because of this, they have decided to stop work indefinitely until their demands are met.
