Siliguri Minister Announces Major Road and Traffic Reforms

West Bengal Tourism Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh has announced significant plans to improve road conditions, traffic management, and e-rickshaw regulations in the city. These decisions were shared during a press conference held at the Mainak Tourist Lodge in Siliguri.

Road Repair and Infrastructure Funding

Officials have allocated five crore rupees from the Siliguri Municipal Corporation fund for urgent road repairs across various city wards. Additionally, projects worth seven crore rupees from the North Bengal Development Department and 100 crore rupees under the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) are currently in the tender process. The minister confirmed that road repairs to fix potholes will be completed before Durga Puja, while permanent road construction work will begin after the festival. Furthermore, MLA funds will be prioritized for developing slum areas, specifically focusing on building better drainage systems and roads.

New Rules for E-Rickshaws and Traffic

To address traffic congestion, the administration is introducing a new system for e-rickshaws. Under this plan, e-rickshaw drivers will receive identification cards, assigned zones, and color-coded stickers to help manage vehicle flow across the city. This measure aims to bring order to the current public transport situation on local streets.

Action Against Illegal Parking

Authorities have issued a strong warning against the unauthorized collection of parking fees in the city. The minister stated that new e-tenders for official parking management will be issued soon to ensure a transparent and legal system.
