Siliguri Regulated Market, one of the top markets in Northeast India, is getting ready for a major makeover. State Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development and Agricultural Marketing, Pradip Majumdar, shared details about infrastructure improvements during a meeting at the market on Tuesday.
The
50-acre market will see significant upgrades to its
roads, drainage system, entry and exit points, drinking water, and security arrangements. Plans are also in place to develop a
garbage processing center, cold storage, and special facilities for farmers and truck drivers. Along with this, the administration will work on
improving electricity and water supply, installing solar power, and enhancing security.
The meeting also included discussions on the
prices of onions and sugar in the market. Minister Pradip Majumdar stated that the government aims to make
onions available at around 35 rupees per kilo and
sugar at 50 rupees or less within this month itself.
