Siliguri Police Organizes Road Safety Awareness Events
The Siliguri Police Commissionerate is conducting various awareness programs across the city as part of Road Safety Week 2026. These initiatives aim to educate residents about traffic rules and the importance of staying safe on the roads through sports, school activities, and health services.
Football Tournament for Road Safety
On Saturday, the Balason Sub-Traffic Guard organized a football tournament titled Path Suraksha Cup 26 for women. The event took place at the Chandmani Tribal Sporting Club football ground. The main objective of this tournament was to raise awareness about road safety through sports. During the event, the police shared messages regarding the mandatory use of helmets, seat belts, and the importance of respecting pedestrians. The program was held under the theme of safe roads and safe travelers, seeing active participation from the local community.
School Awareness and Traffic Education
Alongside the sports event, the Junction Traffic Guard initiated a special awareness program at a non-government school in Devidanga. Police officers organized a quiz competition for school students to test their knowledge of traffic rules and safe road usage. Students who provided correct answers were given prizes by the police to encourage their understanding of road safety measures. Senior officials, including Traffic DCP Kazi Shamsuddin Ahmed and ADCP Purnima Sherpa, attended the events to support the participants and officially inaugurate the activities.
Free Health Camp for Residents
In addition to educational programs, the police also facilitated a free health check-up camp for the general public. Many local residents visited the camp to undergo health screenings as part of the safety week outreach. This initiative provided essential health services to the community while continuing the broader mission of the Road Safety Week 2026 campaign.
