Siliguri Police Arrest Three People for Drug Possession

Siliguri police have successfully dismantled an illegal narcotics operation and arrested three individuals involved in the trade of brown sugar. The operation took place on the evening of August 5, 2026, when law enforcement officers intercepted the suspects at Burdwan Road following a targeted raid.
Details of the Police Operation
The raid was conducted by a team from the Khalpara TOP-II unit under the Siliguri Police Station. Authorities acted on specific intelligence regarding a planned drug handover in the area. During the search, police recovered 259 grams of high-grade brown sugar from the possession of the three individuals. The search and seizure were conducted in accordance with all mandatory statutory procedures.
Identities of the Arrested Suspects
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Sahjamal, aged 29, and Arshad, aged 18. Both are residents of Baghmara in the Thakurganj area of Kishanganj district, Bihar. The third person arrested is Anjum Kausar, a 33-year-old resident of Coila Depot in Ward No. 7, Siliguri. All three suspects remain in police custody following their arrest on August 5.
Legal Action and Investigation
A formal case has been registered against the three accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Siliguri Police Station. The court has remanded the suspects to police custody for further questioning. Investigators are currently working to determine the full extent of the supply network, which is believed to link border districts in Bihar to retail drug peddlers operating within Siliguri town.
