Siliguri Police Arrest Man With Illegal Liquor For Bihar

Siliguri police have seized a large consignment of illicit whisky and arrested one man at a lodge near Siliguri Junction. The operation was carried out by Pradhan Nagar Police Station to stop the illegal transport of alcohol across state lines.

Details of the Police Raid

On August 4, 2026, plainclothes officers conducted a raid at Maa Durga Lodge near Siliguri Junction following specific intelligence. During the search of a rented room, police detained 23-year-old Bhaskar Kumar, who is a resident of Saharsa district in Bihar. Officers recovered 196 paper pouches of Officer's Choice Elite Whisky hidden inside two trolley bags. The suspect could not provide any legal permits or documents required to carry such a large quantity of alcohol.

Investigation and Legal Action

During preliminary questioning, the accused admitted that he bought the liquor from local suppliers in Siliguri. He was staying at the lodge while planning to transport the alcohol into Bihar, where the sale of liquor is prohibited. A case has been registered against the accused at Pradhan Nagar Police Station under the Bengal Excise Act. Police officials confirmed that the arrest and seizure followed all legal procedures. Authorities are now investigating to identify the local supply network responsible for providing the illicit liquor in Siliguri.
