Siliguri Police Arrest Man for Illegal Liquor Smuggling

Siliguri police officers have arrested a 23-year-old man for attempting to transport a large quantity of illegal liquor from Siliguri to Bihar. The operation was carried out by plainclothes officers from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station on August 4, 2026, following a tip-off about suspicious activities at a local lodge.

Details of the Police Operation

Acting on intelligence, police conducted a raid at a rented room in Maa Durga Lodge, located near Siliguri Junction. During the search, officers detained Bhaskar Kumar, a resident of Saharsa district in Bihar. The police recovered 196 paper pouches of Officer's Choice Elite Whisky hidden inside two trolley bags found in the suspect's possession. The man could not provide any valid permits or legal documents required for the transport or storage of this commercial quantity of alcohol.

Confession and Illegal Transport Plans

During questioning, the suspect admitted that he had purchased the liquor from local suppliers within Siliguri. He intended to transport the alcohol across state lines to sell it illegally in Bihar, where the sale and consumption of liquor are prohibited. The police have confirmed that the suspect was preparing to leave the city with the consignment before he was caught at the lodge.

Following the seizure of the contraband, the police registered a formal case against Bhaskar Kumar under the provisions of the Bengal Excise Act. All legal procedures regarding the arrest and the seizure of the liquor were followed according to state laws. The Pradhan Nagar Police are now conducting further investigations to identify the local supply network that provided the alcohol to the suspect.
