Siliguri Police Arrest Man for Blackmailing Minor Girl

Siliguri police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a minor girl using private photos and videos.

Arrest and Identification

Police from the Ashighar Outpost arrested Aditya Roy, a resident of Ward No. 36 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The arrest followed a formal complaint filed against him.

Details of the Allegations

According to police sources, the accused allegedly lured the minor girl about two months ago and recorded objectionable photos and videos. He then threatened to share this content online to blackmail her. Authorities stated that the harassment caused the victim severe mental stress, leading to a suicide attempt.

Legal Action and Court Appearance

The minor's brother filed the complaint, leading to a case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Roy was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court on Saturday, and an investigation is currently underway.
