Siliguri Police Arrest Four For Selling Adulterated Cement

Police from the Ashigarh outpost under the Bhakti Nagar police station have arrested four individuals involved in the illegal business of selling adulterated cement in Siliguri. The authorities conducted a targeted operation and apprehended the suspects for allegedly mixing low-quality materials into cement and packing them into bags bearing the trademarks and logos of well-known companies.

Details of Arrests and Seizures

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Rajesh Roy, Rupak Mohanta, Govinda Mohanta, and Chiranjit Burman, all residents of Jalpaiguri. During the operation, police recovered a large quantity of material, including 182 bags of Electric Premium cement, 28 bags of Ultratech white cement, 117 bags of plain cement powder, and 32 bags of Bagpur Maina cement. Officers also seized 25 empty bags of Bagpur Maina cement, a stainless steel funnel, and a shovel used for mixing the materials.

Modus Operandi and Police Investigation

Initial findings by the police suggest that the accused were filling bags of popular brands with poor-quality mixtures to deceive unsuspecting customers. A case has been registered at the Bhakti Nagar police station under relevant legal sections, and the police have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police to curb the distribution of counterfeit construction materials in the region.
