Siliguri municipal corporation has increased its total wards from 47 to 63 ahead of the upcoming civic elections in West Bengal.
The state government issued a notification on August 31, 2026, through the
Department of Municipal Affairs to change the ward count.
This adds 16 new wards to the existing 47 wards of the city.
The decision was taken under section 7 of the West Bengal Municipal Corporation Act 2006.
Population density, geographical features, economic conditions, and historical importance were considered for this boundary setup.
Copies of the notification have been sent to the State Election Commission, District Magistrate of Darjeeling, and the Commissioner of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
Durgapur Municipal Corporation has also been assigned 53 wards under the same official order.
