Siliguri Municipal Corporation conducted sudden raids across the city to stop dengue and check food safety.
The civic body fined a building owner one lakh rupees and sealed a sweet shop kitchen for violating rules. Corporation officials raided an under-construction multi-story building in ward number 13.
The building lacked an approved engineering plan and had stagnant water which could breed dengue mosquitoes. Officials also raided a sweet shop factory on Sevoke Road after receiving complaints about dirty water.
The factory kitchen was extremely unhygienic and a dirty drain passed right through it. The municipal team sealed the kitchen immediately and issued show-cause notices to both the building owner and the sweet shop management.
